When the wanderlust grabs hold I just can’t seem to shake it. So with one click of the button, I satisfied the call and booked a flight to Ireland. I only had a month to plan since booking the trip was a slightly spontaneous endeavor (trust me when you run your own business, a two week trip to Ireland with only a month’s notice is pretty spontaneous). Truth be told I’m not very good at planning trips. I just kind of get there and figure it out. So with a plane ticket and a two night’s stay at a hostel in Dublin (booked the day before I left) I said goodbye to Missouri and peaced out ready for my own little adventure. So I bring to you the first of several blog posts of the adventures of Courtney Marie!
My trip started in Dublin. With only a few hours sleep on the airplane I arrived bright and early at 5:30a.m. With no check-in until later that day, sleeping was not an option. So I set about wandering the city.
My first real stop was the Glasnevin cemetery in Dublin. After chatting with the genealogist I was able to find out where my great, great, great, great grandfather Fergus Moriarty was buried. His grave is unmarked, but following the map I was given, he’s buried in the area pictured below. I’m fascinated with history and genealogy so my first stop was a pretty exciting one.
Kilmainham Gaol was one of my first glimpses into some of the painful aspects of Irish history.
My hostel in Dublin (above) was located in the Temple Bar area (below).
Day 2 in Dublin: I started off my day with a trip to a cute little cafe. Cappuccino and PB&J french toast.
Dublin Castle
My beer of choice while in Ireland, Guinness! A stop by the storehouse was a must, plus the view of Dublin at the top was phenomenal.
Dublin was a great first stop, but after two nights it was time to say goodbye. Next stop Kilkenny…
